Dell Inspiron 1525 battery life

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1525 last year. When I switch on my laptop, I get the error : This battery will not be charged. If I switch on power, I can use the laptop. If I switch off power, laptop goes off immediately. F2 setup shows battery is fine and charging. But it remains 0%. In Power Options, it shows charging 0%. In my task bar, I cant see the battery icon, even though I have enabled it.

The service warranty is apparently for 14 months, but the battery is presumably under warranty only for 365 days. And, the timing is perfect, it goes off just after an year. I did not know this. The support website was showing me the following information, I promptly rang up the Customer Care only to be told by a grumping executive that I should have been more careful, didnt I even care to check the Order summary to know that battery is covered for an year?

NBD (Next Business Day on-site) DELL 9/20/2008 9/20/2009 13
LIMITED TELEPHONE TECHNICAL PHONE SUPPORT DELL 7/20/2008 9/20/2009 13
POW (Parts only Warranty) DELL 9/20/2008 9/20/2009 13

I hope they provide better information on the site, and more courteous customer care. I still cant locate the page which says that despite the above dates, the battery will not be replaced.
